New Ways To Hire Remote Workers

Now it’s simple for your company “go green” with jobs that can be performed by remote workers.  Remote workers reduce your company’s carbon footprint by getting them off the road and reducing facility space, but how do you find good candidates across the country?  How do you make this work successfully?


1.) Find prospective employees and get to know them by using a free online jobs posting and video interviewing service such as InovaHire.com.  There are now online services that are completely free to employers.  Clearly post that the job is remote.


2.) Identify all computing hardware, software and services that are required for the job by the remote employee and/or will be supplied by the company.   For example, this could be minimum internet bandwidth requirements, webcam, telephone, software, or remote computer specifications.   Clearly specify who is responsible for covering these costs.


3.) Pre-establish a “status methodology” to track remote employees work.  This can include weekly telecons or video conferencing, status reports or metrics.  Communicate this clearly to prospective employees.  Ideally, you want to tap into free video conferencing web services to give you that “face to face” relationship we all need.


4.) Communicate with the prospective employee to get an understanding of the expected “rough” work schedule and let them know how their work time will be logged.  If there are known set required meeting times, pass this information along.  Remote working is flexible, but communication is key to success.


5.) Make sure your company security methodology is in place and you have clear instructions on how the employee can connect to your VPN (Virtual Private Network) if required.  Your company’s up front work here will get the employee up and running quickly.


This is a new age and it’s great to take advantage of it.  By using an online job posting and video interviewing web service along with your diligence in creating a remote worker resources and status methodology, your company will now have access to the best candidates across the country and at the same time making a difference for future generations.  Go green!
